My Very Own Deck of Cards!

So in illustration class this semester the long running project is designing a deck of cards that we will actually be able to print and use. For my deck of cards I've chosen to use European mythologies, Roman, Celtic, Slavic, and Norse, and interpret the gods in my own way. I've replaced the original suit symbols with others a little more pertinent to each mythology. I like how they've come out although I'm sure they could always be better, but due to time constraints they'll have to do. So what does everyone think? Would anyone be interested in purchasing these? For cost of paper and printing and in order to make a little profit the charge may be $20-$25 for each deck. But they will be hand made by yours truly and they're one of a kind! Tell me what you think!

Commission Updates

It's been a while since the last time I updated this. I'm really terrible at keeping up with blogs. It's just something about that extra step about getting the work from physical to digital form that's kind of annoying to me, but I'll try to do better, I promise!
Anyway I've been working on a commission for the Ferry Morse Seed company for the past month and a half or so, and I'm just about done with it. I've completed everything I've been assigned, but now I need to go back and adjust some things for the final work, which is fine cause some of them I'm not completely happy with anyway. I'll post a few here to be seen. Tell me what you think.

This is only five out of the 30 I was asked to do.

What's Going On...

Lots of things are going on really. School is winding down to the end of the Fall semester and Christmas is soon upon us. I've been trying to take a few more professional steps in my school career but to little avail mostly because it seems that email is a little retarded these days. It's hard to contact people when your messages just keep getting bumped to their spam. But I suppose this is all the more reason to start working on said professionalism by getting a new email, keeping up this new blog and sorting out a better portfolio. One of these professional advances that I'm not sure if I've missed out on or not is painting vegetables, fruits, herbs and such for seed packaging. At $50 a pop it sounded like a pretty good idea, but I've been having trouble getting in touch with the guy, and I'm not entirely sure if I gave him what he asked for.
This is what turned out. I feel like I did pretty well considering I don't normally paint like this and it only took me a couple of hours. If nothing else this little job could help me practice. But once again I'm afraid my email might have gone to junk because I haven't heard back from him in over a week. The deadline was the Monday before last and he was supposed to be looking at everything this past Monday.
I have also been considering a Spring internship, but now with only a couple of weeks left before the end of the Semester (maybe less than that) and seeing how stressful this semester has been, I'm thinking it might be better to just take is a little easy in the Spring. If my work study will be anything like this past semester, I'll still be pretty busy. This Summer, however, I am planning to be intern bound for sure. I've been mulling around some plans for a Nashville destination with a couple of friends and I'm hoping and praying things will line up. I think it'll be a great opportunity.

On a Side Note

So part of my goals for this year is to work on my craftsmanship and professionalism and hopefully start expanding my name outside of school. So I'm taking another step by creating a blog apart from the one that revolves only around my Illustration classes. Here I'll be posting more things about my personal work and interests. I'll be posting finished projects from classes here as well, but without all the tedious sketchbook mess and research. I may also post a few things from my personal sketchbook, from the hobbies I partake in and just generally what's going on in life at the moment. I'll try to keep this updated pretty regularly....key word is try.

So as for today, I was at the Memphis Library earlier this morning with our career services director and other MCA students for the new library card unveiling. This was the design of mine that made it into...the finals I guess?

I didn't win, but it was pretty cool that I made it to the unveiling and got to publicize myself and my school. However, I was surprised that my first (and in my opinion better) design didn't make it over this one.
I was disappointed simply because I feel this was just a better representation of me and the kind of things I like to do. But oh well, all's well that ends well and it was a fun experience. Hope you all have a great day!
